Reporting to the School Principal, the Part-Time Early Childhood Physical Education Teacher instructs mixed-age groups of preschool-aged children and kindergarten classes. They are responsible for preparing a developmentally appropriate Physical Education curriculum.

The position is part-time and involves being at school 20 hours a week, including instructional and planning time between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The teacher is responsible for delivering three class sessions per day of forty minutes duration each. The EC Physical Education Teacher is expected to attend staff meetings, team meetings and participate in the life of the school.
 
Responsibilities

  • Providing a developmentally appropriate physical education curriculum
  • Preparing and teaching PE classes for preschool and kindergarten classes
  • Teach safety rules related to activities
  • Establish and enforce rules of conduct: supervise students in PE spaces
  • Demonstrate skills being taught: assist students in performing skills
  • Preparing for classes by gathering and setting up equipment/materials
  • Ensuring Physical Education spaces are clean after each class
  • Sourcing and preparing  a request for PE and recess equipment for the program and managing any allotted budget
  • Communicating regularly with classroom teachers regarding their students’ progress, concerns regarding a child’s typical development (gross motor control, crossing the midline, handedness, perception), as well as communicating the concepts/skills being taught/explored
  • Assessing student learning and providing a simple written narrative report of concepts covered and progress made quarterly.
  • Supervising children’s dismissal with other faculty and staff as assigned
  • Partner with the Early Childhood Specials Team, EC/K Teachers, and Support Staff
    • Adapt activities to students’ special needs developing appropriate modifications for I.E.P. and 504 Plans

Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college/university or its equivalent
    • Preference will be given to candidates with a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education or related field
    • Secondary Preference will be given to candidates with a minor in Physical Education or related field
  • Evidence of at least one year’s teaching experience at the preschool/Kindergarten level
    • Experiences implementing  ABAR pedagogy, Culturally Relevant Pedagogy,  Conscious Discipline, and/or  Montessori are highly preferred
  • Current MO State Teaching Certification Preferred
  • Be flexible to adapt to the changing nature of the work
  • Be resourceful and a good problem-solver
  • Effective communication skills with adults and children
  • Understanding of basic principles of childhood development
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • Demonstrated success working with a diverse student population
  • Deeply grounded in racial equity and have strong alignment with anti-bias, anti-racism values
Schedule
Daily 12:00 to 4:00 pm
Monday through Friday when school is in session.

 
Compensation
This part-time, non-exempt position pays a range of $25.00 to $28.00 per hour.
